Welcome to the University of Stirling’s Centre for Communication and Society. Situated in the School of Communication, we are a world-leading centre of excellence in interdisciplinary research and teaching focusing on the intersection(s) between media and political communication, culture, environment, economy and society.
Our overarching expertise is anchored in critical approaches to journalism, the news media and public relations, and their relationships with audiences, the communities they impact, and discourse in the wider public sphere. Areas of specialist focus range from ‘greenwashing’, environmental (mis)communication and the lobbying industry to the role of information literacy as a corrective to mis/disinformation to the interplay between media representations, stigma, social attitudes and the lived experiences of marginalised groups – in particular, those experiencing socioeconomic and intersectional inequalities.
